I blew my career up last year... and I'll tell you something. The very thing that got me to where I am today is the very thing I finally had to let go of. I was burnt THE FCK OUT.
When you spend your entire life in survival mode, dedicate 22+ years to building a career in one of the most cutthroat but rewarding industries, work 65–80 hours a week, raise four kids, help raise your siblings, hold down a marriage, and spend every waking moment being every-fckn-thing for every-fckn-one... There comes a point where something's gotta give because YOU no longer can.
So last year, I decided fck everybody. I'm coming back to ME. My kids are grown. My marriage is good. I built the career. I did the shit I said I was gonna do. And I have ZERO fckn regrets.
But I spent my entire life building for everyone else's benefit. Pouring into everyone else. Making sure everybody was good. Being the person everybody could count on. Now I get to be that person for MYSELF.
I get to take everything life taught me, everything I learned over 22+ years in advertising, and build something that belongs to ME. Not because I have something to prove. Because I finally get to experience who the fck I am when I'm not responsible for being everything to everybody. And baby, I'm loving every fckn minute of it.
So if I don't answer on the first ring, if I'm unavailable for your emergency, if I'm not participating in the gossip, if I don't show up to the event, or if I'm simply not as accessible as I used to be... just know I'm finally giving myself the same time, energy, dedication, and commitment I spent decades giving everybody else.
I spent 22+ years building a life for everybody I love. Now I'm building one for the woman who made it all happen.
And that's not fckn changing.
xoxo,
